[tminus t=”2017-08-21″ style=”carbonlite” id=”eclipse-timer”/] Coming soon! I’m going to the small town of Mitchell, Oregon to watch from my aunt’s ranch. They are expecting literally bumper-to-bumper traffic even in small out-of-the-way places like Mitchell. It might be more fun to watch the people as watch the eclipse. Be sure to follow the safety guidelines as […]

Hummingbirds & Fuchsias

Posted by Liz on May 15, 2015 in Interest, Local, Thoughts |

The new place is pretty keen. We don’t own it, but the people who do are really special. The house itself is special as well. It has a whole plethora of birds. We had a few birds at the other place, but here are many birds – domestic as well as wild – that I […]

Fireman’s Prayer   Give me the strength to save some life, Whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child, Before it is too late; Or save an older person from, The horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert, And hear the weakest shout, And quickly and efficiently, To put the fire […]

Dear Republicans

Fire weather. Words recognized and respected by all who have lived in the forest for any length of time. Fire weather in short means that all conditions are right for a forest fire to be started in the woods. Not maybe, not might, but would if there is just one more piece of the fire […]

Christmas Trees

Posted by Liz on December 9, 2013 in Local, Regional, Thoughts, World |

A Christmas tree is a decorated tree, usually an evergreen conifer such as spruce, pine or fir, traditionally associated with the celebration of Christmas. The tree was traditionally decorated with edibles such as apples, nuts or dates. In the 18th century, it began to be illuminated by candles, which with electrification could also be replaced by Christmas lights. Today, there are a wide variety of traditional ornaments, such as garland, tinsel, and candy canes. An angel or star may be placed at the top of the tree to represent the host of angels or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity.
